Airwallex Goes Big On Europe With $1.1 Billion Expansion
Hey Digital Banking Fanatic!
Airwallex is committing $1.135 billion to expand across Europe over the next five years.
This follows a move I highlighted recently when the company committed $590 million to expand in the UK as part of its EMEA push.
The momentum is showing up in the numbers. Airwallex says EMEA revenue more than doubled in the last quarter of 2025 compared with a year earlier. Transaction volumes more than tripled in the same period.
The latest investment also includes about €200 million ($264 million) for the Netherlands. The strategy is straightforward. Build infrastructure locally while scaling a global financial platform for multinational businesses.
Airwallex was valued at $8 billion in its December funding round and recently surpassed $1.2 billion in annual recurring revenue.
Its CEO, Jack Zhang, says the company could pursue an IPO within three to four years.

The expansion race is heating up. Keep scrolling 👇 I’ll connect a few more dots further down.
