Brazil’s FinTech Boom and Digital Banking Push Added R$1.6T to GDP
Hey Digital Banking Fanatic!
Brazil’s digital banking boom is turning into a much bigger economic story.
A new Reglab study estimates that digital financial institutions contributed R$1.6 trillion to Brazil’s GDP between 2016 and Q1 2026. Without them, real GDP in Q1 2026 would have been 2.2% lower.
The research points to a combination of fintech innovation and regulatory changes — including Pix, Open Finance, and data portability — that increased competition in credit and financial services.
In other words, Brazil’s fintech ecosystem hasn’t just created more digital ways to bank. It has changed how financial services are accessed and how banks compete.
And there’s another interesting digital banking story in today’s edition: who actually owns Monzo after 25 funding rounds?
Let’s get into today’s Digital Banking stories. 👇 See you tomorrow!
