Bunq to Offer Bitcoin-Friendly Bank Accounts

Hey Digital Banking Fanatic!

Europe's neobank powerhouse bunq has teamed up with Dutch Bitcoin platform Blockrise to deliver secure, IBAN-backed bank accounts for Bitcoin users.

Now, Blockrise customers can hold euros alongside their BTC in fully compliant accounts, protected up to €100,000 by the Deposit Guarantee Scheme, seamlessly bridging traditional finance with crypto custody.

This partnership launches with personal accounts in the Netherlands, with plans to expand to business accounts and the wider EU, complete with future perks like payment cards and interest-bearing options.

It's a play for financial inclusion, letting Bitcoin holders manage fiat without sacrificing self-custody or security under MiCAR rules.

bunq rolled out its crypto product in 2025 for direct in-app investing. By embracing BaaS to power partners like Blockrise and prioritizing user-friendly features like instant payments and budgeting tools, they look to outpace rivals like Revolut or N26 in flexibility and speed.

We will see if bunq's Bitcoin push finally tips the scales against entrenched competitors, or is it just another crypto gimmick in a crowded market?

Dive deeper into digital banking's latest moves below. Catch you tomorrow!

Cheers,

Marcel
