Hey Digital Banking Fanatic!

Your next mobile carrier might be... your bank.

Starling has joined Revolut and Monzo in rolling out eSIMs, turning yet another everyday service into a banking feature. But it's also one more way FinTechs are creeping into services that used to have nothing to do with banking.

They're not all following the same playbook, though.

Starling is launching travel eSIMs for 130+ destinations. Revolut started there but is now stepping into full mobile plans in the UK and Germany, complete with unlimited calls, texts, data, and roaming. Monzo has taken a similar step, offering UK customers a telecom service alongside their bank account.

A few years ago, adding an eSIM to a banking app would've felt like a stretch. Today, it feels almost inevitable.

The battleground is no longer just FX rates or budgeting tools. It's about becoming the app customers instinctively open, whether they're checking their balance, boarding a flight, or switching on mobile data abroad.

Whether people actually want their bank to be their mobile provider is still up for debate. But if Starling, Revolut, and Monzo are all making the same bet, it's probably about more than eSIMs.

Let's see what else is making headlines today. πŸ‘‡ See you tomorrow!

Cheers,

Marcel
