Hey Digital Banking Fanatic!

Remember last year when ZA Bank became the first Hong Kong digital bank to cross 1 million users? Turns out that was just the warm-up.

ZA has now posted its first-ever interim net profit. We're talking roughly HK$49M ($6.3M) in the first half of the year. Five years after launch, the city's biggest digital bank is officially in the black.

And the numbers? They speak for themselves:

  • Net revenue up a massive 82.1% YoY
  • Net interest income up 42.8%, fee income up 56%
  • Deposits climbing past HK$21.1B, total assets hitting HK$24.65B
  • Net interest margin holding strong at 2.38%

CEO Calvin Ng calls it proof that "even in a mature financial market like Hong Kong, seizing the right opportunities can still lead to meaningful breakthroughs."

So what's fueling all this? Three things: Wealth Management, Web3, and AI.

  • A StockBack x ZA Card, Hong Kong's first Visa card that pays you back in stocks
  • Asia's first regulated retail crypto trading
  • Banking services for 300+ Web3 firms, including most of the city's licensed VATPs

From launch in 2020 to monthly profitability in 2024, to interim profit in 2025, ZA just keeps setting the pace!

See what else is shaping Digital Banking. ๐Ÿ‘‡ See you tomorrow!

Cheers,

Marcel
