Mexican Klar Has Acquired a Digital Mortgage Platform
Hey Digital Banking Fanatic!
M&As aren't just a US or European game anymore. Mexican FinTech Klar just proved it with its acquisition of Yave, a digital mortgage platform.
The move is a direct bet on Mexico's mortgage gap, where just 5.6% of adults have a formal mortgage (per the 2024 ENIF survey); the opportunity to build a fully digital home-lending product is massive.
Klar is pursuing a full banking license from Mexican regulators, a waiting list that includes Nu and Mercado Libre.
In Mexico, approximately 83%–85% of adults lack access to formal credit channels. Stefan Möller, Klar’s CEO and founder, noted that 35%-40% of their customers are accessing the formal financial system for the first time through the platform.
Klar is eyeing an IPO by 2026, which would be a pretty big deal for Mexico's tech scene, not exactly known for splashy public listings.
