Monzo Has Officially Launched in Ireland
Hey Digital Banking Fanatic!
Monzo has launched in Ireland, marking a bold entry into the EU just weeks after shutting down its US operations.
The UK neobank drew an impressive 100,000 sign-ups on its wait-list before going live, signaling strong Irish demand for its no-fee current accounts, savings options protected up to €100,000, and business banking features.
“Our mission is to make money work for everyone, and we’re bringing that to Ireland today with free everyday banking and a simpler, smarter way for people and businesses to manage their finances,” said Michael Carney, EU chief executive at Monzo.
This rollout follows Monzo's strategic pivot, enabled by a full banking license secured from Ireland’s Central Bank and the ECB in December 2025.
The Dublin-based approval positions Ireland as Monzo’s EU headquarters, granting passporting rights across the single market and unlocking seamless expansion beyond the UK’s 15 million users.
The timing is telling: after axing its US business, Monzo is redirecting resources to Europe, where instant traction contrasts with years of transatlantic struggles.
