Monzo Turns to a 15% Stake Sale
Hey Digital Banking Fanatic!
I know, more Monzo talk.
But the story has taken another turn.
The UK digital bank is looking to sell up to a 15% stake to private equity, just days after Nubank walked away from takeover talks that could have valued it at up to £10 billion.
Monzo is already talking to firms including CVC and Advent International about taking a stake in the business. Instead of selling the whole company, this would bring in a new investor and a sizeable amount of cash to fund its growth.
But there’s still another option on the table: a traditional funding round from venture capital investors.
For now, private equity seems to be the route the board prefers.
A few days ago, Monzo was heading toward a potential £10bn takeover. Now it’s looking for a new investor instead. Quite a week.
Here’s what else is happening in digital banking today👇 See you tomorrow!
Cheers,
