Tencent and VR Capital just led a $70M equity round into Uzum, valuing the Uzbek FinTech-and-ecommerce giant at $1.5 billion.
Uzum is moving fast to fill the gap in financial services in Uzbekistan, offering digital banking services and more.
For Tencent, this is one of its first regional moves in Central Asia. The investment round also included participation from FinSight Ventures.
